Once a cider house, this pretty thatched pub is furnished with stripped pine tables and cushioned farmhouse chairs, and there are enough open fires to keep everywhere well warmed. The three charmingly decorated, saggy-beamed rooms have a relaxed and friendly feel. Hosts Adam Cain and Cinzia Iezzi have a wealth of experience in some of the UK’s most respected hotels and restaurants, and they have made food a key part of the Kingsdon’s appeal. Menus make excellent use of seasonal, local and often organic produce – maybe home-smoked duck breast, crispy duck beignet, duck liver parfait and toasted gingerbread; and twice-cooked pork belly, creamed potato, apple purée, winter vegetables, sautéed spinach and cooking juices.
