In the beautiful Shropshire Hills, this gloriously unspoilt and unpretentious village inn oozes character with beams, wizened wood and slab floors. Three beers brewed in their own microbrewery, the Clun, together with others selected from Shropshire’s many craft breweries provide the line-up at the bar. This ‘green’ pub offers visitors drawn to AE Housman’s ‘Quietest place under the sun’ heart-warming pub grub, derived from very local suppliers. The traditional suet puddings are a speciality or you could try venison and red wine casserole; or parmesan and dill crusted salmon perhaps; while leaving some room for a home-made dessert of apple, calvados and sultana crumble. Regular events take place here, including the Clun Valley Beer Festival on the first weekend in October.
