Although 17th century, the White Hart’s contemporary interior sits well with the big old fireplace and all those 400-year-old stone flags. The management's marketing stance is that it's as happy to serve a pint of real ale as it is a sit-down meal. But if you are hungry perhaps start with pan-fried wood pigeon breast, roast beetroot, black pudding and lamb's lettuce; or home-smoked cod fritters with saffron aïoli, and follow on with chargrilled 8oz British sirloin steak, hand-cut chips, creamed spinach, rosemary roast tomato and red wine, shallot and thyme butter; wild mushroom and samphire risotto; or tapenade-crusted cod fillet with sweet potato and red onion rösti. In summer, dine on the Mediterranean-style terrace.
