Several old wells were found during renovations of this 15th to 16th-century pub, and one now serves as a dining table. You can peer down it while eating – an unusual diversion. The modern bar’s stable of Greene King real ales is supplemented by regularly-changing guests. Sandwiches are served at lunchtime only, while the main menu covers both lunch and dinner, so either meal could feature a pulled pork, pickles and toast starter, followed by, say, treacle baked ham with egg, chips and peas; or perhaps beef and Guinness pie with cabbage and mash; and, to end, ginger pear and black cherry crumble with vanilla custard.
