Locals play Aunt Sally or shove-ha'penny in this 15th-century coaching inn’s big wood-floored bar, whilst the lounge boasts a bar-billiards table and a large inglenook fireplace. External features include an arch that used to straddle the former Banbury to Chipping Norton turnpike; at night the gates of the pub were closed, and no traffic could get over the toll bridge. Today the menu offers toasties and baguettes, and favourites like scampi, crispy cod and vegetarian shepherd’s pie. The bar serves seasonal and guest ales as well as Westons ciders. The beer festival in June is part of the Bloxfest Music Festival.
