Owned, appropriately, by the Eyston family, who have lived in the village since 1443, this old inn stands just north of the prehistoric track known as The Ridgeway. With some of its original look revealed by renovations, the pub greets its customers with a huge log fire, flagstone floor, simple polished tables, leather chairs and cartoons of its regulars. The bar stocks real ales from Wadworth and Hook Norton. Chef Maria Jaremchuk's ever-changing menus may feature seafood pasta; chargrilled steaks; and wild boar burgers while carefully cultivated contacts with south coast fishermen mean excellent fish specials.
