The landlady here must have been one of the youngest in the UK when she starting running the inn at the age of 22. But the Pack Horse today is fully-fledged after a complete but character-preserving refurbishment. Nearly 200 jugs hang from exposed beams in the bar, log fires burn in the grates, and the restaurant has comfortable seating with solid wood tables. Black Sheep and Timothy Taylor beers are well-kept, while the carefully considered menu features Ellingham rare breed meats. The garden has been landscaped too, producing seasonal vegetables for the kitchen and a sunny spot for the summer trade.
