This delightful 16th-century inn fulfils a role as a true community pub, with a reputation for its family- and dog-friendly attitude, its excellent beers and a range of high-quality, locally-sourced, ‘nothing-out-of-a-packet’ dishes. The interior is modern and styled in calming colours. A seasonal menu might well feature the following – twice baked cheddar cheese soufflé, blushed tomato, red onion and walnut salad; Thai-style fishcakes with sweet chilli, coriander and lime crème fraîche; beer battered codling fillet, mushy peas and home-cut chips; slow-braised blade of beef, beetroot dauphinoise, charred broccoli and green peppercorn jus; and cheddar, leek and feta sausages, spring onion mash, spring greens and red onion gravy.
