Built of locally quarried limestone, the interior of this family-run hotel has been given a heritage-respecting makeover. The bar's leather chairs and sofas offer as ideal a place as any for a pint of Grainstore's GB Best, perhaps, or Ossett Silver King. Main menu attractions at lunchtime could be chicken, ham hock and leek pie; or beef and red wine stew with spring onion mash. In the evening a more expansive menu offers seafood tagliatelle in tomato and chilli sauce; 21-day-aged Scottish rib-eye steak with hand-cut chips and side salad; and sweet potato and black bean curry with basmati rice.
