With Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk on the doorstep, this Grade II listed Swaledale pub dates back to the 17th century. As well as open fires and antique furniture, the bar and bar stools were hand-crafted by Robert ‘The Mouseman’ Thompson's company (see if you can spot the mice around the bar). Typical food choices include chicken liver and orange pâté; beef and ale casserole with herb dumplings and horseradish mash; and Yorkshire parkin with apple compôte. Local cask-conditioned ales also feature. If you would like to stay over for the Swaledale festivals, the 11 bedrooms all have spectacular views.
