On the edge of the North York Moors National Park, this family-run free house is fortunate to have the acclaimed The Great Yorkshire Brewery at the bottom of the garden. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the pub is a draw to ale lovers and there is a beer festival in November. Meals are served in the restored village bar and in the elegant Victorian restaurant: choices could include Yorkshire coast fishcakes or crisp belly pork with dauphinoise potatoes; an extensive range from the grill; plus lunchtime sandwiches and ciabatta rolls.
