This traditional inn is part of the original settlement of Green Hammerton, positioned on the old Roman road from York to Aldborough. The pub has served travellers and villagers for over 200 years; many features from those days remain in the beamed, fire-warmed interior. Reliable cask beers accompany home-made meals strong on local produce; excellent matured steaks, gammon and chicken grilled to order are always available. Daily-changing dishes include grilled goats’ cheese and pickled star anise beetroot salad; and local sausages with mash, buttered cabbage and onion gravy. Outside is a garden and patio area.
