A converted 17th-century farmhouse on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, within easy reach of the Scarborough coastline and Ryedale. Inside are lovely high ceilings, and large sash windows look down to the attractive stone village of Wykeham. Yorkshire ales populate the bar, and lunchtime plates represent excellent value. In the evening the charming restaurant is transformed into an intimate candle-lit dining room, where a home-made salmon fishcake could precede the pan-fried venison steak served with dauphinoise potatoes. If a rhubarb and custard pannacotta cannot be resisted, one of the inn’s 10 en suite and beautifully furnished bedrooms may also prove tempting.
