Dan and Katie Searle say they focus on the food as much as the beer, although there are still more than 20 ales on offer. The head chef is passionate about British produce and you can expect to find anything from Norfolk pigeon, Puy lentil ragù and game crisps; black treacle Blythburgh pork loin, Earl Grey prunes, spiced red cabbage, to Channel hake supreme, garlic Scottish mussel and clam broth. Also available all day is a tapas menu including home-made Swannington pork crackling; plates of British cured meats and cheeses; and black pudding Scotch egg. Leave room for desserts such as dark chocolate tart, poached prunes and chocolate ice cream; or spiced apple and pepper cake, spiced cider jelly and star anise anglaise. Wash it all down with one of several real ales from breweries such as Dark Star and Elgood’s. Look out for the summer beer festival.
