An ornithological focal point for many years, The George’s beer garden backs on to the salt marshes of the north Norfolk coast, a renowned paradise for birdwatchers. Close to the famous Cley Windmill and Blakeney Harbour, The George is a welcoming place, proffering several real ales at the bar, including Yetman’s. You can snack in the lounge bar or dine in the light, painting-filled restaurant. The daily-changing dishes offer the best of local ingredients, and fish and seafood is a real strength. Starters include potted pheasant, orange jelly, toasted ciabatta and mixed leaves, with pan-seared sea bass fillets, pea and smoked tomato pearl barley risotto, brown shrimp and dill velouté one of the typical main courses. Birdwatchers can bring in their dogs, which are welcome in the bar and front restaurant, as are children, who get to choose from their own menu.
