This attractive pub with a whitewashed wooden exterior is a former alehouse with a sunny garden. It’s just minutes from Crosby Beach, where sculptor Antony Gormley’s famous 100 cast-iron figures gaze out to sea. Surrounded by fields and golf courses, the pub retains an original brick in the restaurant wall dated 1719. In the bar these days you’ll find Marston's Wainwright alongside Aspall ciders. The menu is changed twice a year so expect dishes like pulled lobster brioche roll with twice-cooked chunky chips and thermidor dip; or slow-cooked pork belly, seared scallops with sticky ginger beer glaze and black pudding. There are also the legendary Sunday platter, fish suppers on ‘Fin and Fizz’ Fridays, and retro dining evenings.
