AA Pick of the Pubs
Bar menu
Beer festival

Contrasting skylines are revealed from this historic Thames-side pub; adjoining is a terrace of dockers' cottages that overlook the nearby lock, backed by frozen-in-time crane jibs. Dwarfing these are the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, whilst across the river is the distinctive domed shape of the O2 Arena. Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton secretly met at The Gun, and the pub still retains a restrained naval and shipping heritage that adds character to the range of panelled dining rooms and snugs. Diners drawn to the AA-Rosette menu can anticipate tempting dishes prepared by a highly capable kitchen team. From a choice of menus come first courses like venison, rabbit and pistachio terrine; and confit wild boar collar. Mains choices may include slow-braised Dexter beef cheek; Herdwick lamb rump with smoked bacon, kidney and lentil stew, or 45-day aged rare breed steaks. The chefs look to nearby Billingsgate Market for the best fish and seafood. Guest beers, several beer festivals and a great wine list complement the award-winning menus.
