The name is not mere whimsy; goats did once graze around here because the first Lady Portman was allergic to cow’s milk. Expect modern British, seasonal cooking – maybe chilli salt squid, smoked chilli and lime dressing; or the pub’s own house-cured meats with marinated olives, bocconcini, spiced apple chutney and tomato relish (to share), followed by hot-smoked salmon, potato and caper salad, lemon confit and horseradish dressing; cottage pie, chantenay carrots and gravy; or roast pheasant, sweet potato dauphinoise, kale, bread sauce and pomegranate jus.
