A really friendly London local

Named after a local writer who lived in Islington in the 1830s, this is a cracking neighbourhood pub. Locals beat a path to the door for microbrewery ales and the hearty, home-cooked comfort food listed on the daily chalkboard menu. Traditional pub food is the order of the day, perhaps steak, mushroom and Guinness pie; lamb sausages with Puy lentils; or smoked haddock and leek cakes with home-cut chips. A tasty roast is served on a Sunday.
