Dating from 1542, this was the last of the Fen Guide Houses that provided shelter before the treacherous marshes were drained. Among the oak-beamed pub’s features are a priest's hole, low ceilings, a very old inglenook fireplace, extensive gardens and a yew tree dating from the 1600s. The same family has been running the pub for over 30 years and they source their produce locally (including game in season). All food is home made, and dishes on the seasonal menu could include wild game pie, slow-roasted blade of beef, fisherman’s pie and double-dipped full rack of BBQ ribs. Wednesday night is steak night.
