Commanding a prime position on one of historic Stamford's most stunning streets, this gabled coaching inn is recognised by the AA for both its top-notch accommodation and its very good food. Tucked behind the mellow stone façade is a comfy, traditional destination which appeals to all-comers, where dining is to the fore but beer lovers aren't short-changed. Local brewers The Grainstore is one reliable supplier to the bar, whilst produce from this corner of Lincolnshire plump out the enticing menu. Opt for a starter such as crispy whitebait in Bloody Mary sauce; or seared scallops with black pudding and pink apple, then move on to wild mushroom, chestnut and broad bean lasagne with truffle greens and wild rocket; or Norfolk Black turkey with all the trimmings.
