Licensee Simon Crathorn has been brewing the award-winning Blue Cow Best Bitter at the small brewery here for more than 10 years – ask for a free viewing, subject to availability. The pub was renamed ‘blue’ by erstwhile owner the Duke of Buckminster nearly 400 years ago, on account of his political allegiance to his king. Low beams, flagstone floors and dressed-stone walls characterise the ancient interior, with crackling log fires to take the edge off the fenland breezes; any remaining chill may be generated by the pub’s ghosts – a lady and a dog. Snacks, salads and sandwiches are offered, as well as mains like gammon steak, sausages and scampi.
