Unpretentious food in a traditional walkers' inn

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

Parts of this welcoming, traditional, family-run country inn date back to the 15th century. There are three cosy bar areas serving a range of real ales, two dining rooms, a skittle alley, large patio and ‘secret’ garden with a stream. Menus and a wide range of specials offer unfussy, good-value internationally inspired food including moules marinière; chicken and chorizo linguine; traditional Spanish paella; and rhubarb and ginger sponge, lemon curd and vanilla ice cream. Dogs are only allowed in one room near the bar. The area is popular with walkers heading for Swithland Woods, Beacon Hill and the Old John folly, and there’s also a steam railway nearby.
