Having fulfilled their long-held ambition to own a pub, Neil and Louise Hitchen have seen their appealing, stone-built Berkeley Arms go from strength to strength. They are dedicated to sourcing fresh, local produce for the daily-changing menus. So a winter menu starts with roast parsnip soup with parsnip chips; pork and black pudding pâté with apple compôte and toast; and continues with whole roasted partridge with fondant potato and honey-roasted parsnips; or braised shoulder of venison with mash, caramelised walnuts and poached pear. Leave a little room for apple and blackberry crumble with blackberry sorbet. Well thought out two- and three- course lunches are served on Sundays.
