Easily missed gem in a ‘Best Kept Village’

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year
Dog friendly

In the chocolate box village of Waddington, winner of ‘Best Kept Village’ on several occasions, look for St Helen’s church and you’ll find The Lower Buck just behind it. The 250-year-old pub is affectionately run by Andrew Warburton, without music or fruit machines disturbing the peace. The emphasis is on warmth of welcome, five excellent ales – with award-winning Bowland AONB among them – and a classic pub menu of quality dishes. Choose to eat superior sandwiches such as hot topside of beef with fried onions; board and platters; Bowand Bakery pies; or a hearty dish of Lancashire hotpot; or Cowman’s of Clitheroe Cumberland sausage and mash.
