Built in 1468 and licensed to sell ale since 1764, Chris and Carol Haines’s traditional fire-warmed bar is paradise for lovers of local real ales and cider. They stock Three Tun Best Bitter brewed for the pub by Kent Brewery, Goacher’s Real Mild and Dudda’s Tun Kentish Cider, while Summer Bank Holiday sees the Kentish Ale and Cider Festival, with a hog-roast, seafood and live music. Farms supply much of the food on the ever-changing restaurant menu, such as slow-cooked beef brisket, braised red cabbage, mash potato and mulled wine jus; or butternut squash and spinach risotto. There’s a large beer garden.
