Built in 1468 and licensed to sell ale since 1764, Chris and Carol Haines’s traditional fire-warmed bar is paradise for lovers of local real ales and cider. They stock Millis Kentish Best, Goacher’s Real Mild and Dudda’s Tun Kentish Cider, while Summer Bank Holiday sees the Kentish Ale and Cider Festival, with a hog-roast, seafood and live music. Farms supply much of the food on the ever-changing restaurant menu, such as pan-fried marinated fillet of plaice, Parmentier potatoes, roasted Mediterranean vegetables, prawn and sun-dried tomato butter; or corn-fed chicken supreme with goats' cheese and cranberry stuffing, wild mushroom, potato cake and tarragon sauce. There’s a large beer garden.
