Beer festival
Open all year

First licensed over 330 years ago, The Swan on the Green’s microbrewery has revived the 18th-century principles of ‘pure ale’, using only natural and, when possible, local ingredients for its eight craft ales; these are colourfully celebrated during the pub’s October beer festival when Morris dancing may hinder through-traffic. A full menu includes starters such as blue crab and lobster risotto; pan-seared scallops with bacon and spinach; and boar ham and vegetable winter broth. From the mains choose caramelised red onion sausages and mash; or fillet of hake with tiger prawns. Home-made puddings may proffer American-style pancakes with either maple syrup or berry compôte with ice cream.
