Microbrewed ales

First licensed over 330 years ago, The Swan on the Green’s microbrewery has revived the 18th-century principles of ‘pure ale’, using only natural and, when possible, local ingredients for its eight craft ales; these are colourfully celebrated during the pub’s October beer festival when Morris dancing may hinder through-traffic. A full menu includes starters such as boar meatballs in mustard and tarragon; pan-seared scallops and chorizo; and salt and chilli prawns with a soy dressing. From the mains choose Cumberland sausage and mash; or roasted pepper, tomato and spinach risotto. Home-made puddings may proffer American-style pancakes with berry compôte or pear frangipane.
