The Plough Inn is a splendid, 15th-century Wealden hall house situated by the green in an unspoilt hamlet high up on the North Downs. A real country pub, it enjoys far-reaching views across the Swale estuary and is worth seeking out for the array of Kentish drinks – microbrewery beers, ciders and juices – and a choice of dishes on the constantly changing menus and blackboard specials. Kick off an enjoyable evening meal with a kir royale followed by wild rabbit risotto, crispy loin and Swiss chard emulsion, then pan-roasted duck breast, celeriac sauerkraut, sweet potato purée, cavolo nero and brandied cherry sauce. End with chestnut sponge, roast rhubarb and rhubarb ice cream perhaps.
