The Plough Inn is a splendid, 15th-century Wealden hall house situated by the green in an unspoilt hamlet high up on the North Downs. A real country pub, it enjoys far-reaching views across the Swale estuary and is worth seeking out for the array of Kentish drinks – microbrewery beers, ciders and juices – and a choice of dishes on the constantly changing menus and blackboard specials. Kick off an enjoyable evening meal with a kir royale followed by partridge escabeche with pickled red cabbage, mushrooms and chargrilled soda bread, then slow-cooked pork belly and black pudding with slat-baked sandy carrots, spring greens and chorizo. End with damson gin cheesecake, Hobnob ice cream and meringues.
