The Queen's Head

Parsonage Lane, ICKLESHAM, Winchelsea, TN36 4BL

This 17th-century tile-hung and oak-beamed pub enjoys magnificent views from its gardens of the Brede Valley and as far as the coast at Rye, and has been in the same hands for more than 30 years. The traditional atmosphere has been preserved, with vaulted ceilings, large inglenook fireplaces, split-level floors, church pews, antique farm implements, and a bar from the old Midland Bank in Eastbourne. Customers are kept happy with up to 10 real ales, an annual beer festival in October, and menus ranging from salads, sandwiches and ploughman's to a comprehensive main menu selection which includes chicken, chorizo, tomato and basil pasta; pan-fried soft herring roe with toast and garnish; and spinach and roasted vegetable lasagne.
