The unusual name refers to the village green where this welcoming pub is located. A section of Grim’s Dyke, an ancient bank-and-ditch earthwork, is clearly visible nearby. By comparison the pub – dating from 1924 – is relatively new, but there’s been a public house here since the 17th century. These days it’s a good destination for home-cooked food such as smoked salmon pâté with lemon purée and pickled cucumber followed by pan-roasted chicken breast, chorizo gnocchi, tomato and bacon sauce and rocket pesto.
