Located on the western face of the Malvern Hills, the Wellington sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – its garden enjoys panoramic views of unspoilt countryside and magnificent sunsets. Originally a coaching inn where horses were added to passing coaches to ensure successful negotiation of the hill. The ethos here is to keep the bar for drinkers, and seat diners in one of the three dedicated eating areas. So while locals quaff pints of Goffs, seated diners enjoy their choices from the specials board: roast red onion and Bleu d’Auvergne tartlet to start, perhaps, followed by pavé of local venison with creamed Savoy cabbage, watercress, pommes Anna and juniper jus.
