Set in bucolic Herefordshire countryside richly endowed with orchards and hopyards. The Oak enjoys an enviable location close to the lovely old market town of Ledbury, with the striking ridge of the Malvern Hills a sublime horizon. Ramblers can enjoy a walk along the nearby course of the former Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal before retiring to the lovingly extended cottage-style pub, complete with log-burning stoves, flagstone floors and old wooden beams adorned with hops. Both the drinks and food menus draw lavishly on the county's larder; beers from Ledbury and Wye Valley breweries adorn the bar, whilst local cider adds interest. Dishes from the starter menu include Madgett's Farm (Wye Valley) chicken liver and brandy parfait, whilst a sharing platter includes Severn and Wye smoked Var salmon. Juniper-braised blade of Herefordshire beef, roasted beetroot, carrots and wild berry sauce examples the comfortable mains menu here. Dogs are very welcome both inside and in the orchard-side garden.
