Although it looks two centuries old, the flint-faced Rising Sun was actually built in the 21st century. Apparently, in 1960, its predecessor was constructed in one day, even serving its first pint at 6pm. Today the bar sells a variety of real ales and ciders, as well as a good selection of single malt whiskies. The menu focuses on pub favourites such as beer-battered cod; pan-fried lamb’s liver, bacon and onion gravy; ham, egg and chips; and Thai green curry. Vegetarian options, baguettes, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and ploughman’s are there too. Tuesday night is steak night, curries are on Thursday and it’s Friday for music. The B&B accommodation is popular with walkers and cyclists on the South Downs Way.
