Set beside meadows in the Long River valley, this creeper-clad pub, a jigsaw of interlinked cottages, has the charm of ages past. Three centuries of tradition ooze from the run of public spaces and the atmospheric, beamed 'The Pottery' restaurant suite. A double-sided warming fire connects the bar and restaurant, while outside the Snug and Vineyard, surrounded by colourful tubs and hanging baskets, are just the ticket for summer relaxation. The inspiring menu here is equally eclectic, with starters such as duck rillettes with shallot purée and roasted garlic setting the standard. Mains can include pan-fried partridge breasts, creamed cabbage and bacon with parsnip purée. 21-day aged Angus steaks are a house speciality, whilst a phenomenal range of fish is sourced daily from Brixham's fishmarket. The wine list has 36 bins to choose from.
