Purpose-built 120 years ago for local farm workers, this high-ceilinged Victorian pub is light and airy, with log-burning fires at each end of the bar. Four ales are rotated and you’ll find modern British cooking and local ingredients on the menu. Start with Alresford watercress soup or the baked Tunworth cheese sharing platter; move on to pan-fried hake with roasted vine tomatoes and truffle mash, or Gressingham duck breast with orange and rhubarb sauce, Savoy cabbage and dauphinoise potatoes. There’s a burger menu too – homemade burgers with a choice of extras – what about chilli jam and guacamole? Finish with tarte Tatin or local ice cream.
