Memo to Hollywood: if you need an English pub location, look no further. Bang opposite the village green and architecturally perfect, it endears itself to local bar-proppers with six or seven real ales and three ciders, a May beer festival and a September cider celebration. The compact menu gets the thumbs up too, with dishes such as spicy duck parcels with chilli and apple purée; wild mushroom and thyme mille feuille; baked lemon and pepper salmon; and buttermilk pudding with cardamom strawberries. There are light bites and deli options such as Indian potato cake, and smoked cod Scotch egg.
