Sitting proudly on the village green in the heart of the Cotswolds village of Mersey Hampton, this 17th-century, stone-built inn used to be owner Paul Fallows’ local pub. Now running it, he has transformed it into a bustling community pub with a warming log fire in the large inglenook, and well-kept Arkell’s ales, and Thatchers ciders in the convivial beamed bar. Good value home-made food includes garlic and herb mushrooms on toast with dressed rocket; and honey-roasted Wiltshire ham, two free-range eggs and chips.
