AA Pick of the Pubs
This handsome Grade II listed Cotswold stone pub is both a serious dining destination and a friendly place for a drink. The building combines a contemporary feel with plenty of original period features and the mature garden is a must-visit in summer with its panoramic hilltop views. The beer selection mixes local brews such as Goffs Jouster and over 20 carefully selected wines are served by the glass. The blackboard menu changes daily, providing plenty of appeal for even the most ardent regulars. With committed local suppliers backed up by the pub’s own abundant vegetable patch, the kitchen has plenty of good produce to work with. A typical menu might feature Cornish fish soup, rouille, gruyère and crispy toasts; then shin of Dexter beef ragù, home-made pappardelle pasta; or grilled Middlewhite pork chop, creamed celeriac purée and chorizo crumbs; followed by peanut butter, Nutella and chocolate mousse tart; or Granny G’s toffee meringue.
