Pint of beer on a bar

This beautiful, family-run former coaching inn with open fires, exposed beams and one of only two remaining full-length settles in England is very much at the centre of the local community. The chefs prepare good home-made dishes and fish is a major focus – venison casserole with new potatoes and green beans and asparagus, broad bean and roasted garlic risotto. So expect a menu of popular favourites from fresh ciabattas, beef and Merlot pie; and a choice of home-made gourmet burgers; and for dessert, cheesecake of the day; or treacle sponge pudding. A large beer garden with a children's play area confirms its family-friendly credentials.
