Ideal for business or leisure, this former coaching inn was built on what used to be the main East Coast road. Now a traditional country pub and restaurant, it’s a popular stop for travellers on the way to Stansted Airport. Inside are oak beams, winter log fires and plenty of real ales, although the large and well-furnished garden is the place to relax in summer. A typical meal from might be smoked chicken with beetroot, watercress and avocado; grilled skate wing, salad and chips or new potatoes; or roasted vegetable risotto, parmesan and basil oil.
