Friendly village dining-pub

Bar menu

Standing behind a white-painted picket fence, this 185-year-old pub's proprietors are Justin and Liz Flodman. Spacious, with two wood-burners, the pub’s customers can enjoy good wines by the glass, real ales from Essex and surrounding counties, and Justin's seasonal modern British food. Maybe choose spiced lamb kofta kebab; or crispy paprika whitebait to start; then move on to local Churchgate Farm sausages, creamy mash and thyme and shallot gravy; free-range chicken saltimbocca; or a Turkish dish of baked 'imam bayildi' (which translates as 'the imam swooned', allegedly at his wife's cooking). For dessert you might like to try banana and chocolate bread and butter pudding; or lemon syllabub.
