Garden

Built as an inn for the stonemasons who constructed the 14th-century church, this creeper-clad stone building has a stunning summer garden that affords impressive views across the High Weald. Equally appealing is the atmospheric, low-beamed main bar with its rustic furnishings and huge inglenook fireplace – all very cosy and welcoming in winter. The regularly-changing chalkboard menu lists fresh fish and seafood from the day boats in Hastings. Other choices could be carpaccio of venison; spiced roasted vegetable soup; local bavette steak, skinny fries and escargot garlic butter; and toffee waffle cheesecake.
