Although Winnie-the-Pooh never visited this nearly 550-year-old pub, a former manor house, his creator, A A Milne, who lived nearby, may occasionally have popped in. Locals today gather in the wooden-beamed front bar, perhaps to drink Harvey's or Larkins; the back bar, with its inglenook and library, feels more intimate. Dishes include peppered venison loin; honey-glazed pork belly; pan-fried sea bass; and Anchor fish pie. At the front is an attractive, gabled verandah, at the rear a large garden.
