Just east of this 200-year-old village pub is the famous chalk promontory of Flamborough Head and its equally famed lighthouse. The inn has had a major refurbishment and is now an open, welcoming place with inviting roaring fires in winter. With the North Sea so close you’d expect plenty of fish, and there is, namely, spicy Whitby creel king prawns; deep-fried dusted whitebait; salmon steak hollandaise; and battered haddock fillet. The menu keeps to staples like a good choice of steaks; chicken breast with bacon, barbecue sauce and cheese; gammon with egg and pineapple; and steamed suet pudding with spinach, pine nuts, mozzarella cheese and cherry tomatoes.
