Dating from 1723, the White Lion is a beautiful stone-built, creeper-clad Dorset inn. The bar is cosy with beams, flagstones and an open fire. Here you will find a range of real beers and ciders, and menus drawing on the wealth of quality local produce. Starters range from devilled kidneys on toast, to Jackson’s of Newton Abbot smoked haddock with spinach and creamy gruyère sauce. Select a main course from the classics list, such as Barclay’s Butchers stack: Cumberland sausage, faggot and bacon with mash and gravy; or the half-pound cheese burger with chips and salad.
