Located in countryside immortalised by Thomas Hardy and a short walk from the village church, The Langton Arms is a lovely 17th-century thatched inn. Inside are two bars, each of which is a relaxing place to savour a pint from the ever-changing range of outstanding local ales and ciders. Traditional pub dishes are served in the bars, as well as in the Stables restaurant and conservatory. Expect choice West Country fare made from local produce – sourced in Dorset whenever possible, including beef from the owners’ own herd at Rawston Farm. In addition to beef, main course options could include fillet of sea bass with wilted spinach; or roast belly pork with crackling and cider gravy. Children, if you can persuade them to leave the fully-equipped play area, are spoilt for choice with their own menu or smaller portions from the adult carte. Comfortable bedrooms are situated around an attractive courtyard.
