One mile from stunning Slapton Sands, this part-thatched 14th-century pub stands in the pretty village of Stokenham and was previously a brewhouse and cottages. Tables in the garden overlooking the village green and church are highly prized in summer, with a log-burning fire warming the beamed bar in colder months. Local ales such as Otter keep the drinkers happy, whilst bar meals and sandwiches are supplemented by a full menu that might start with pan-seared squid with seaweed salad and sesame and soy sauce dip, followed by haunch of venison, dauphinoise potatoes and red wine jus.
