This well-maintained timber-framed 16th-century inn is run by a brother and sister partnership. There is a good selection of real ales (Otter Ale, Otter Amber) and malts, and a fine collection of bar games. The regularly-changing evening blackboard menu might include beer battered calamari or seasoned whitebait; home-cooked ham with eggs and chunky chips; Cornish brie, tomato and mushroom frittata; or a choice of steaks. Lunchtime special deals are available and at Sunday lunchtimes (booking advisable), as well as the popular roast, there is also a pie and vegetarian choice. There is a patio for summer dining, plus bingo, quizzes, and themed food nights. In winter, tables must be booked for Wednesday evenings.
