Set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, and dating from the 16th century, this thatched pub is the only one in the village and is adjacent to the cricket pitch. It has a traditional snug bar, with beams, granite flooring and log fire; to the rear, formerly the old railway station waiting room, is now a light and airy dining area leading to a lovely cottage garden. The pub/bistro has gained a reputation for an interesting and varied, daily-changing menu. Dishes include Ligurian fish stew; River Teign mussels; sausages in ale gravy with bubble-and-squeak; or hand-made pumpkin ravioli with sage butter and balsamic onions. If you’re thinking of taking your dog inside the pub, please just call ahead to check it’s alright.
